What paint do I use on lime plaster?

What paint do I use on lime plaster?

This is a question I have been researching for a while! Chances are you’ve used lime as you have solid construction walls with no cavities. This means you need the walls to be breathable so any moisture can travel back out of the wall without any issues.

Most modern paints, (Dulux, Farrow and Ball, Lick etc) all contain vinyl which traps moisture and creates a barrier stopping it from moving through the wall.

From my research I found four different companies that produce paint for lime plaster walls.

Little Greene

Their absolute matt emulsion is the finish that it suitable for lime plaster.

Earthborn

Earthborn paints were recommended by our Lime Plasterer, they have a gorgeous soft colour palette – and all of the colours come in Clay paint which is used for lime plaster for its breathability qualities.

Fenwick and Tilbrook

Again another company based in the UK that have a Clay Paint range. They have a big range of colours and again are perfect for lime walls.

Edward Bulmer

With strong eco credentials Edward Bulmer offer a range of gorgeous colours using natural and earth pigments to form the colours.

Here’s one of the rooms we’ve finished in Little Greene and Earthborn (yes those stripes are painted*)
